Privacy PolicyLast updated: March 5, 2026IntroductionOptimAItion ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Detecting Log mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the App.By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.Information We CollectInformation You Provide- Account Information: If you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (which is cryptographically hashed and never stored in plain text).
- Hunt Log Data: Dates, times, location coordinates, location labels, detector model, hunt duration, weather conditions, soil type, notes, and detector settings (sensitivity, discrimination, frequency).
- Find Records: Find type, metal type, VDI readings, depth measurements, and keeper status.
- Photos: Images you attach to hunt logs, which are compressed to a maximum of 500 KB before storage.
- Support Requests: If you contact support through the App, we collect your email address (if provided), subject, and message content.
- Preferences: Your chosen units (imperial/metric), time format, detector defaults, theme preference, and privacy settings.Information Collected Automatically- Device Identifier: A pseudonymous client identifier generated locally on your device (not linked to hardware identifiers unless you grant tracking permission).
- Platform Information: Whether you are using iOS or Android, and the App version.
- Location Data: GPS coordinates captured with your permission when logging a hunt. We only request foreground ("while in use") location access — we do not track your location in the background.
- Analytics Data (opt-in only): If you enable analytics in Settings, we collect anonymised usage events such as screens viewed, features used, and interaction patterns. Analytics are disabled by default and require your explicit consent.
- Advertising Identifier (iOS): If you grant App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission on iOS, your device advertising identifier (IDFA) may be shared with our advertising partner to serve personalised ads. If you decline, ads are served in a non-personalised manner.
- Error Reports: If configured, crash and error data (stack traces and diagnostic context) may be sent to our error monitoring service to help us identify and fix bugs. This data does not include your hunt logs or personal content.Information We Do NOT Collect- We do not collect your real name, phone number, physical address, financial information, or payment card details. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) through their respective in-app purchase systems.
- We do not access your contacts, calendar, microphone, or any device sensors beyond GPS location (with your permission).How We Use Your InformationWe use the information we collect to:- Provide and maintain the App's core functionality (logging hunts, storing finds, displaying maps and statistics).
- Synchronise your data across devices when you opt in to cloud sync (premium feature).
- Process CSV data exports that you request.
- Display your hunt locations on maps.
- Serve advertisements to free-tier users.
- Process subscription purchases and manage premium entitlements.
- Send transactional emails (account verification, password resets, data exports) from our branded email domain.
- Respond to support requests you submit through the App.
- Improve the App based on aggregated, anonymised usage patterns (only with your analytics consent).
- Identify and fix bugs and crashes.We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.Third-Party ServicesThe App uses the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy governing their use of your data:

Data Storage and SecurityLocal Storage
By default, all your hunt data is stored locally on your device using an encrypted SQLite database. Your data remains entirely on your device unless you explicitly enable cloud sync.Cloud Storage
If you opt in to cloud sync (available to premium subscribers), your data is stored on servers operated by Supabase (hosted in the United States). Photos are stored in cloud object storage with access-controlled signed URLs that expire after one hour.Security Measures
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:
- Cryptographic password hashing (never stored in plain text).
- Row-level security policies ensuring users can only access their own data.
- Signed, time-limited URLs for photo access.
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit.
- Soft-delete architecture to prevent accidental permanent data loss.While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.Data Retention- Account Data: Retained until you delete your account.
- Hunt Logs, Finds, and Photos: Retained until you delete them individually or delete your account.
- Local Data: Remains on your device until you uninstall the App or clear App data.
- Analytics Data: Retained by Mixpanel according to their data retention policies (typically up to 180 days).
- Error Reports: Retained by Sentry according to their data retention policies (typically up to 90 days).
- Subscription Records: Retained by RevenueCat for the duration of your subscription relationship plus any legally required retention period.When you delete your account through the App, we permanently delete all associated cloud data including hunts, finds, photos, settings, exports, subscriptions, and your user profile.Your Rights and ChoicesData Access and Export
You can export all your hunt and find data at any time using the CSV export feature in the App's Settings.Data Deletion
You can delete your account and all associated cloud data through Settings > Account > Delete Account. You can also delete only your cloud backup while keeping your account through Settings > Storage & Export.Analytics Opt-Out
Analytics tracking is enabled by default. You can enable or disable it at any time through Settings > Privacy.Ad Personalisation
On iOS, you can control ad personalisation through the App Tracking Transparency prompt or your device's Settings. Declining personalisation does not remove ads for free-tier users — it only means ads will be generic rather than targeted. Premium subscribers do not see ads.Location Permission
You can revoke location permission at any time through your device's Settings. The App will continue to function, but you will not be able to set GPS pins for new hunts.Additional Rights (EEA/UK/California Residents)

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("you" or "user") and OptimAItion ("we," "us," or "our"), a sole proprietorship, regarding your use of the App.2. Description of ServiceThe App is a personal logging tool for metal detecting hobbyists. It allows you to record hunts, log finds, attach photos, capture GPS locations, view statistics, and export your data. The App is provided as a convenience tool and is not intended to replace professional record-keeping, surveying, navigation, or land management systems.3. EligibilityYou must be at least 13 years of age (or 16 in the EEA/UK) to use the App. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement. If you are under the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.4. User Accounts4.1 Account Creation
You may use the App as a guest without creating an account. Certain features (cloud sync, data backup, subscription purchases) require you to create an account with a valid email address and password.4.2 Account Security

You agree to provide accurate and current information when creating your account. You are solely responsible for the information associated with your account.5. Subscriptions and Payments5.1 Free and Premium Tiers
The App offers a free tier with limited features and advertisements, and a premium subscription tier with additional features and an ad-free experience.5.2 Subscription Processing
All subscription purchases are processed through Apple's App Store or Google Play Store. By purchasing a subscription, you also agree to the applicable store's terms of service and payment policies. We do not directly collect or store your payment card or financial information.5.3 Pricing
Subscription pricing is displayed in the App at the time of purchase. Prices may vary by region and are subject to change. Any price changes will apply to the next billing cycle after the change is announced.5.4 Cancellation and Refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple App Store or Google Play Store account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refund requests must be directed to Apple or Google, as they process all payments. We do not have the ability to issue refunds directly.5.5 Feature Availability
We reserve the right to modify, add, or remove features from either the free or premium tier at any time. We will endeavour to provide reasonable notice of material changes to premium features.6. Acceptable UseYou agree not to:- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable local, state, national, or international law.
- Use the App to trespass on private property or to detect in areas where metal detecting is prohibited or requires permission you have not obtained.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the App.
- Interfere with or disrupt the App's servers, networks, or infrastructure.
- Upload malicious content, viruses, or harmful data through the App.
- Create multiple accounts to circumvent free-tier limitations.
- Use the App in any manner that could damage, disable, or impair the service.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the App or its related systems.7. User Content7.1 Ownership
You retain full ownership of all content you create, upload, or store through the App, including hunt logs, find records, photos, and notes ("User Content").7.2 Licence Grant
By using the App's cloud sync and storage features, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, transmit, and display your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the App's services to you. This licence terminates when you delete your content or your account.7.3 Responsibility
You are solely responsible for your User Content. You represent that you have the right to upload any photos or content you add to the App and that such content does not infringe on the rights of any third party.7.4 No Obligation to Backup
While we offer cloud sync as a premium feature, we are not obligated to maintain backups of your data. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of important data. We strongly recommend using the CSV export feature regularly.8. Location Data and Metal Detecting8.1 Location Accuracy
GPS coordinates captured by the App are approximate and depend on your device's hardware, software, and environmental conditions. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy, precision, or reliability of location data. Do not rely on the App for precise surveying, boundary determination, or navigation.8.2 Detecting Responsibility
The App is a logging tool only. You are solely responsible for:
- Obtaining all necessary permissions before detecting on any land (public or private).
- Complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and permit requirements related to metal detecting in your jurisdiction.
- Understanding and following local rules regarding the removal, reporting, or handling of found items (including archaeological artefacts, historical items, or items of cultural significance).
- Your own physical safety while detecting.The App does not provide legal advice regarding metal detecting permissions, land access, or archaeological regulations.9. Intellectual Property9.1 App Ownership
The App, including its design, code, graphics, interfaces, and all related intellectual property, is owned by OptimAItion and is protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or branding.9.2 Feedback
If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the App, you grant us a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use such feedback for any purpose without obligation to you.10. Disclaimer of WarrantiesTHE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to:- Merchantability: We do not warrant that the App will meet your requirements or expectations.
- Fitness for a particular purpose: The App is a general-purpose logging tool and is not warranted for any specific use case.
- Accuracy: We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any data displayed by or generated through the App, including GPS coordinates, statistics, charts, or exported data.
- Availability: We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
- Data integrity: While we implement reasonable measures to protect your data, we do not warrant that your data will never be lost, corrupted, or compromised.
- Third-party services: We do not warrant the performance, availability, or policies of any third-party services integrated with the App (including cloud storage, maps, analytics, advertising, or payment processing).11. Limitation of LiabilityTO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:- OptimAItion, its owner, operators, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the App.
- Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising out of or related to these Terms or the App shall not exceed the amount you have paid to us (through subscription fees) in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or fifty Australian dollars (AUD $50), whichever is greater.
- We are not liable for any damages or losses resulting from:
- Loss or corruption of your hunt data, find records, photos, or any other User Content, whether stored locally or in the cloud.
- Inaccurate GPS coordinates, statistics, or data displayed by the App.
- Interruption or failure of cloud sync, data backup, or data export features.
- Actions taken by third-party service providers (including Apple, Google, Supabase, or any other integrated service).
- Unauthorised access to your account resulting from your failure to maintain account security.
- Your reliance on any information or data provided by the App.
- Legal consequences arising from your metal detecting activities, including trespass, removal of protected items, or violation of detecting regulations.Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liability. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.12. IndemnificationYou agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless OptimAItion and its owner from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:- Your use of the App.
- Your violation of these Terms.
- Your violation of any applicable law or regulation.
- Your User Content or any content you upload, transmit, or store through the App.
- Your metal detecting activities, including any disputes regarding land access, permissions, or found items.
- Any claim by a third party related to your use of the App.13. Data and PrivacyYour use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, available at detectinglog.app/privacy. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.14. Third-Party ServicesThe App integrates with third-party services (including cloud storage, maps, analytics, advertising, email delivery, and payment processing). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices, content, or availability of third-party services.15. Modifications to the App and Terms15.1 App Changes
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuance of the App.15.2 Terms Changes
We may revise these Terms at any time by updating this page. Material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the App.16. Termination16.1 By You
You may stop using the App at any time. You may delete your account through Settings > Account > Delete Account, which will permanently remove your cloud data.16.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, for any reason, including but not limited to violation of these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately.16.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination, provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive (including Sections 10, 11, 12, and 17) will remain in effect.17.
